Nothing is ever truly predictable when working in the veterinary industry, especially when it comes to the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice. Even with a carefully scheduled appointment book, veterinary teams are faced with unexpected challenges daily - whether it’s an emergency, an urgent procedure, or an unplanned surgery. But there's nothing quite like a pet owner who suddenly needs to prepare their pet for international travel.
International pet travel is a service that many veterinary practices would like to offer their clients. However, the complexity, time commitment, logistics, and regulatory requirements involved can make managing international pet travel a significant challenge for veterinary professionals. For many practices, navigating these requirements accurately and efficiently can quickly become overwhelming when added to an already demanding workload.
When Pawsitive Pet Health Certificates (PPHC) was founded more than five years ago, co-owners Nicole and Mary built the company around their personal experiences within the veterinary profession, including their firsthand experience with international pet travel. Through these experiences, they recognized a clear need for veterinary practices to have access to dedicated expertise in this highly specialized area.
PPHC is helping to establish a culture within the veterinary community that recognizes international pet travel as a specialty service—one that requires specialized knowledge, experience, and attention to detail. Veterinary professionals should not be expected to navigate the complex and ever-changing requirements of international pet travel alone. Instead, they should have a trusted specialist they can rely on to assist their team and support their clients throughout the process.
That specialist is Pawsitive Pet Health Certificates.
At PPHC, our goal is to make international pet travel easier, more efficient, and less stressful for both veterinary teams and their clients. By becoming the trusted resource for international pet travel, PPHC allows veterinary professionals to focus on what they do best—providing exceptional care to their patients—while we manage the complexities of preparing pets for safe and compliant international travel.
We believe veterinary practices should not have to become experts in international pet travel. They simply need an expert partner they can trust.
With countries changing their pet import rules, regulations, and forms seemingly on a weekly basis, coupled with the USDA frequently updating requirements, health certificate formatting, and even experiencing unexpected website outages, PPHC serves as the critical resource navigating these complexities. We continuously monitor these changes and provide guidance not only to your team, but also to our mutual clients, ensuring everyone remains informed about the status of their pet’s travel plans and USDA endorsement process.
A recent example occurred just a few weeks ago when the USDA’s digital endorsement platform, VEHCS, unexpectedly went offline for nearly two full business days. During this outage, the USDA was unable to review, process, or endorse pet health certificates, creating significant uncertainty for clients with upcoming travel.
Throughout this challenging situation, PPHC worked tirelessly alongside our veterinary partners, clients, and the USDA to determine the best course of action and do everything possible to keep our clients’ travel plans on track and minimize the disruption. We maintained ongoing communication with all parties, monitored the USDA’s progress, and evaluated alternative options when necessary to help minimize potential travel disruptions.
Most importantly, PPHC absorbed a significant portion of the communication, coordination, and administrative workload during this period. With PPHC’s assistance, our veterinary partners were able to remain primarily focused on the immediate needs of their patients and the day-to-day operations of their hospitals, rather than having to manage the complexities of the USDA outage and evolving travel requirements themselves
The value of this support extends beyond simply managing paperwork. PPHC provides veterinary partners with an experienced advocate who is actively monitoring the entire process, communicating updates in real time, anticipating potential issues, and helping develop alternative solutions when challenges arise. This level of oversight provides both our veterinary partners and our mutual clients with greater confidence and peace of mind throughout the pet travel process.
PPHC’s services come at no cost to our veterinary partners - our services are 100% client-paid.
When our team meets with potential veterinary partners and explains what it’s like to partner with PPHC, we often hear the same response:
“This sounds too good to be true! How quickly can we start referring our clients to your services?”
That’s exactly what we love to hear!
If you or your veterinary team are interested in learning more about PPHC, our services, and how partnering with us can help improve the quality of life for your veterinary staff, we’d love to connect.
We’re happy to explain how the partnership process works, answer your questions, and show you just how simple it can be to get started.
